Harvey Stuart Allen Distinguished Service Award in 1997 and the American Burn Association
Special Achievement Award in 2006. He chaired the General and Plastic Surgery Devices Council of
the Food and Drug Administration in 1992 and contributes to several medical advisory boards and
39 professional societies. Dr. Warden is currently Adjunct Professor of Surgery, University of Utah,
Professor of Surgery Emeritus, University of Cincinnati, Emeritus Chief of Staff of the Shriners
Hospital for Children, Cincinnati Burns Hospital and Staff Surgeon, Intermountain Shrine Hospital
for Children, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Prompted by his long interest in tissue banking, Dr. Warden became CEO of USTC Tissue and Cell
in 2000 and retired from surgery to perform this role full time from 2004-2005. He presently serves
as CEO of Warden BioScience Associates in Salt Lake City, Utah.

assumed the additional position of Associate Dean for Community Affairs. Dr. Fischer's principal
interests are gastrointestinal surgery, metabolism, especially as it relates to sepsis, nutritional
support, liver disease, and cancer anorexia and cachexia. He has contributed to more than 750
publications and has edited eight books. He has served on councils of most surgical organizations,
was president of the Halsted Society, the Surgical Infection Society, and the Central Surgical
Association. He served as chairman of the American Board of Surgery in 1998, and is currently on
the Residency Review Committee for Surgery. Dr. Fischer has served as Governor and First Vice
President of the American College of Surgeons and is current Chairman of the Advisory Council for
General Surgery. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1997 and in 1996; he received
the Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, of
which he served as President in 1995. The University of Cincinnati awarded Dr. Fischer the Award
for Excellence in 1997. He holds an honorary Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of
Lund, Sweden, and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

- David N. Herndon, M.D., is chief of staff at the Galveston Shriners Hospital. He
received his undergraduate (magna cum laude) and his doctor of medicine
degrees from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He received
his surgical training at Duke University, the Army Institute for Surgical Research,
and the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, where he was appointed
chief of burn services upon completion of his surgical residency. In 1981,
Herndon joined the Galveston Shriners Hospital in his present position as well
as director of burns services at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

- Dr. Hunt graduated from Harvard Medical School. He completed his General
Surgery residency training at the Boston City hospital and the University of
Oregon Medical School. He is one of the early leaders in wound healing
research. He has written numerous articles and books on wound healing and
has received numerous awards nationally and internationally. He has been
Director of the Wound Healing Laboratory in the Department of Surgery,
University of California in San Francisco since its inception. He also served as
Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery in San Francisco for many years.

- Dr. Pruitt received his MD degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in
1957. He began his residency at the Boston City Hospital and completed it at
Brooke General Hospital in 1964. During a year in Vietnam he served as Chief of
Professional Services at the 12th Evacuation Hospital and the Chief of the
Trauma Research Team. He then became Commander and Director of the U. S.
Army Institute of Surgical Research (Army Burn Center), a position he held for
the last 27 of his 35 years as a military surgeon. In January 1996 he joined the
faculty at UTHSCSA as Clinical Professor of Surgery. Dr. Pruitt is presently the
Editor of the Journal of Trauma and has served on 14 other editorial boards.

- Dr. Mackie is Anesthesiologist/ intensivist at the Red Cross Hospital, Beverwijk,
Netherlands. He received his medical education Edinburgh, England in 1978. He
completed an anesthesiology residency in the Netherlands in 1979
and a Specialist in Intensive Care in the Netherlands in 1993. He has numerous
publications in the areas of skin allografts and tissue banking, intensive care
and selective decontamination of the digestive tract. He became an Executive
member of the European Burns Association in 1991 and was president of the
European Burns Association from 2003 – 2005. He has been actively involved
with the International Society of Burn Injury and now serves as Secretary.
